Bluefield State College
Situated in Bluefield, West Virginia, Bluefield State College is a four-year public college offering baccalaureate and associate degrees. The college is a historically black college, but currently 90% of enrolled students are white. The institution is a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Aside from the main campus in Bluefield, there are also campus locations in Beckley, Summersville, Lewisburg, and Welch.
Attending Bluefield State College is a cost-efficient education option for many students. The college has a reduced out-of-state tuition rate offered to residents from 28 southwest Virginia counties and selected counties in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentuckym and Maryland. Also, the college has the most affordable in-state tuition among public four-year colleges in the region.
Bluefield State College has been ranked among "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News and World Report for twelve consecutive years. It maintains agreements and partnerships with other insitutions of higher education in the region, including Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, Wytheville Community College, New River Community and Technical College, Southwest Community College, and Virginia Western Community College.

Bluefield State College does not provide campus-based student housing, but does provide resources and referrals to area off-campus housing partners and options so students can choose from rental properties with safety and security standards that meet the college's. Participating properties and landlords currently include MountainView Student Residence and Conference Center, Perry Rental Properties, DCI Management, Inc., Community Action of South Eastern WV, Ridgeview Apartments, Leatherwood Manor, Tremont Park Apartments, Hale Manor Apartments, and others.
Various organizations and student groups operate on campus to provide leadership and socialization opportunities to students of Bluefield State College. Organizations vary by interest, purpose, background, and focus. Organizations include Baptist Student Union, Emerging Leaders Institute, Campus Ministries, Gamma Beta Phi, Healing Hands, EnviroMentalists, International Student Organization, Student Government Association, Psi Delta Beta Psychology Club, American Society of Civil Engineers, Lambda Chi Omega, Phi Sigma Zeta, and more.
The Wendell G. Hardway Library on the campus of Bluefield State College exists to provide access and resources to information and education for the community of the College. Services provided include information literacy instruction, personal assistance, and a wide range of research databases and online information tools. The Wendell G. Hardway Library is also a member of the Mountain Library Network consortium of West Virginia, so students and faculty at Bluefield State College also have access to resources, references, and materials at other member libraries. The Library keeps convenient hours during weekdays during fall and spring semesters, as well as Saturday and Sunday hours.
